Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill

Yesterday, 4th February 2025, this Bill passed its second reading and so has now entered the Committee Stage. It will create new powers to investigate suspected fraud against public bodies, recover owed money, and take action against offenders. Powers include compelling organisations to provide information and allowing authorised investigators to enter and search premises with a court warrant.

In totally unrelated news, the Covid fraud squad will have power to seize fraudsters’ cash under this Labour bill.
